Experimental Data

The following data are available on request to Harry Yeh: harry@engr.orst.edu

 

a) Wave gage data with no object in flow for the initial impoundment h1 = 100mm; 125mm; 150mm; 175mm; 200mm; 225mm; 250mm; 275mm; 300mm.

 

b) The following time series data of water surface profiles obtained by the laser induced fluorescent technique are available for the cases of h1 = 250mm

  1. Profiles along the centerline upstream of the circular column: Figures 2.2 and 2.3.

  2. Profiles along the centerline upstream of the square column: two sides are parallel to the tank sidewalls.

  3. Profiles along the centerline upstream of the square column: the column is rotated by 45˚ so that one corner is facing the flow, “diamond” shape.

  4. Transverse profiles in the wake of the circular column: Figure 2.6.

c) Velocity data taken by LDV: two horizontal longitudinal and transverse components (u, v).

  1. No object in flow. The measurements are at (x, y) = (0, 0). The impoundment conditions, h1 and the elevations of the measurements, z are shown in the following table:

  1. Upstream of the circular column with the initial impoundment h1 = 250mm at the locations: x = – 300mm (300 mm upstream of the obstacles extreme upstream point); y = 0, 70, 130mm; z = 8, 24, 60 mm.

  2. Downstream of the circular column (wake) with the initial impoundment h1 = 250mm at the locations: x = 210, 350, 470mm; y = 0, 70, 140, 210mm; z = 15, 35mm.  See Fig. 3.2.

d) Velocity data taken by DPIV: two horizontal longitudinal and transverse components (u, v) in the wake of the circular column.

  1. Temporal data with 90 frames at the elevation z = 15 mm with the initial impoundment h1 = 250mm, e.g. Fig. 2.5.

  2. Temporal data with 90 frames at the elevation z = 35 mm with the initial impoundment h1 = 250mm, e.g. Fig. 2.5.

  3. Temporal data with 90 frames at the elevation z = 15 mm with the initial impoundment h1 = 300mm.

e) Force measurements for the initial impoundment h1 = 100mm; 125mm; 150mm; 175mm; 200mm; 225mm; 250mm; 275mm; 300mm.

  1. Circular column.

  2. Square column with the orientation of two sides being parallel to the tank sidewalls.

  3. Square column with the orientation of one corner facing the flow, i.e. “diamond” shape.
